MANILA, Philippines — Dwellers in Metro Manila are most likely to experience light rains and cloudy skies on Monday due to the prevailing northeast monsoon, according to the state weather bureau.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Obet Badrina, in a public forecast, said the northeast monsoon, locally called amihan, continues to affect parts of Luzon.

US futures slipped and oil prices also fell.

Seven & i – Japan’s biggest retailer – last month rejected an initial buyout offer from Canada’s Alimentation Couche-Tard (ACT), saying the $40 billion proposal undervalued its business and could face regulatory hurdles.

Aside from the northeast monsoon, Badrina said another weather system called the shear line is also expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms in some parts of southern Luzon and the eastern section of Visayas.

“[Ang] shearline ay magdadala pa rin ng maulap na kalangitan, partikular ng mga pag-ulan sa bahagi ng Bicol region, Eastern Visayas, Mimaropa, at lalawigan ng Quezon,” he said.

Residents in the areas affected by the shear line are advised to be vigilant against possible flash floods and landslides due to moderate to heavy rains.

Meanwhile, Badrina said the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies.

Apart from the three weather systems—the northeast monsoon, shear line, and easterlies—the state weather bureau does not see any weather disturbance that can affect the country.

“Sa ating latest satellite images, wala tayong mino-monitor na anumang low pressure area sa loob at labas ng Philippine area of responsibility,” said Badrina.

“Base sa huling datos, for this week ay medyo maliit pa rin ang tiyansa na magkaroon ng bagyo,” he noted.
